The patient isn't dead yet...hold up on that post mortem!!!
It seems Larry Craig has un-resigned. This could all become far too tabloid, sensational kind of news very soon. I love to see Republicans fighting among themselves, so give 'em Hell Larry!!! I'll pop up some corn and enjoy watching them fight...

Post mortem on the Craig resignation...
Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) announced his resignation from the Senate yesterday due to the fallout from his arrest in a Minneapolis airport restroom for approaching an undercover police officer in an attempt to initiate a sexual encounter. Craig's resignation came after intense pressure from his own party to step aside.
But months earlier Senator David Vitter (R-LA) had his name and phone number show up the records of Deborah Jean Palfrey, who ran a Washington DC escort service. But Vitter wasn't unceremoniously run out of the Senate like Craig was. Why?
Both cases involve powerful senators caught in sex scandals. Vitter's was a heterosexual indiscretion and Craig's was a homosexual one. That is the only difference in the two cases. A double standard was used in terms of how each case was dealt with by the GOP. Could it be that the GOP knows whichever candidate they chose to replace Craig will easily win election in Idaho while that same fact isn't ensured in more liberal Louisiana and Vitter? Of course I think this has everything to do with it. Along with the Wingnuts hatred and intolerance towards people who are gay and lesbian while ignoring a heterosexual adulterer when it suits their political agenda.
The level of hypocrisy displayed by the GOP is, as always, breathtaking in its audacity. Senator Craig should rightly be criticized for breaking the law but not for his sexual preference. But still reeling from the Mark Foley Page Scandal, a "gay" Larry Craig had to be politically lynched for all to see.

Counting down until January 20, 2009...
This post is a combination music and political post. The song is Kings by Steely Dan. It is an anti-Iraq War and anti-George Bush video. Check it out...
I chose the song because of Bush's loathing for the Rule of Law and for acting like he is above it...for all intents and purposes he thinks he's a "King". I am counting down they days until January 20, 2009 and the country is rid of El Presidente and his Junta!!!

More music to check out.
As seen by my promotional post for their upcoming new album I am a big fan of the band Monster Magnet. A very cool dude from across the pond did some great vids for 3 songs the band did early in their career. The music and vids are very trippy and definitely worth a look...
Nod Scene
Snake Dance
Superjudge
The first two vids are from the Spine of God album and the 3rd one is from the album of the same name...Superjudge.

Democrats who don't have a clue...
There is a very good discussion over at TPMCafe on a great M.J. Rosenberg thread about how the Democrats are missing a golden opportunity to show leadership and stand up to El Presidente and the Junta's fascist like governing tendencies. The Democrats were put in power by the voters in the '06 midterms to do just that. They have rolled over for Bush on the FISA bill. They refuse to take action to shut down Gitmo, even when given "bi-partisan" cover by people like Colin Powell. Speaker Pelosi has taken the impeachment option off the table when even conservative minds like Bruce Fein are calling for impeachment of the President and Vice President. But it seems the Democrats are more worried about being labeled "weak on terrorism" and "soft on defense" by the far right of the political spectrum and the 30% of the electorate that inhabit the land of Wingnuttery. Why are the Democrats concerned with the opinions of a vast minority of the people who will never support them under any circumstances when a plurality of the electorate is calling for change?
The U.S. people voted the Democrats into power in '06 because they wanted change and will just as easily vote them back out of power in '08 if there are no results. The people have spoken why are Messrs Dean, Reid and Missus Pelosi not listening?

SWEPT!!!
Well it is over and the Red Sox were swept in their 3 game series in the Bronx. In the last 2 games of the series they had virtually no offense culminating in a shutout in the finale. The Yankees got solid pitching which the Sox had no answer for. It was a truly pathetic display of baseball by the boys from Beantown. With Manny Ramirez out for a week or more the guys better pick up the offensive slack or they could still lose the division title...it's not how you start it is all about how you finish.

BROTHERS & SISTERS!!!!
The rock band Monster Magnet is coming out with a new album, 4 Way Diablo, November 2nd. From what I hear it is going to kick out the f'ing jams!!! If some of you are not familiar with the band they scored a decent hit with their song "Space Lord" (video below) in the late 90's.
Their last album was in 2004 when Monolithic Baby! was released. Front man and creative force Dave Wyndorf has put his personal problems behind him and the new album is done. Long live the Bullgod...

Hypocritical Republicans: Case History #11,278
Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) was arrested and plead guilty to charges that he approached a plains clothes police officer in the Minneapolis International Airport bathroom attempting to initiate a sexual tryst. Craig who plead guilty to a disorderly conduct misdemeanor now says that plea was "a mistake" and is denying he sought to have gay sex with a man in a public toilet.
Craig, long been suspected as being gay, has had numerous allegations leveled against him of being a closeted gay man. An investigation by the Idaho Statesman details the allegations. (link via Talking Points Memo) Craig has long been an opponent of gay rights and gay marriage and is undecided regarding seeking another term in the US Senate...
Another example of a GOP politician saying "do as I say and not as I do", and in Craig's case what he does in public toilets.

Going...going...Gone-zales
This morning embattled US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announced his long overdue resignation. It's about time!!!!
Gonzales refused to answer questions posed to him by a Senate committee about his involvement in and knowledge of the US Attorney purge. The administration tried to protect the Attorney General (and most likely higher ranking administration officials) by repeatedly invoking "Executive Privilege". Mr. Gonzales was involved in a disgraceful incident when as White House Counsel he and Chief of Staff Andy Card went to the hospital to badger then Attorney General John Ashcroft into approving surveillance measures President Bush claimed he needed to fight his faux "War on Terrorism". Mr. Ashcroft had just underwent Gall Bladder surgery and was incapable of making decisions and had turned over his authority to his second in command James Comey. When Mr. Gonzales was asked to testify about this incident he apparently perjured himself by making knowingly false statements about the nature of the visit, statements which were shown to be untrue by Robert Mueller's sworn testimony in front of a House committee.
Mr. Gonzales should be disbarred and never be allowed to practice law again. The black cloud which enveloped the DoJ, resulting in many resignations within the DoJ, has been lifted. One can only speculate about the permanent damage done to the DoJ by this incident and can it ever recover it's credibility. Finally was Mr. Gonzales another in a long line of rats abandoning the sinking ship or was he pushed overboard to protect the scurrilous Captain and First Mate?

Hello!!! Is anybody home?
I started this blog to have a place to write about a number of topics. Music, sports, politics, nature and whatever else might strike my fancy.
Just as a good place to start I would like to bring up that the Boston Red Sox won on Sunday and the Evil Empire lost. The Red Sox lead is back up to 7 1/2 games (depending on what NY does on Monday) heading into next week's 3 game series in the Bronx. Hopefully their lead will be bigger after they "Escape from New York" a la Kurt Russell.
So until next time I will leave some music on, Neil Young and Crazy Horse doing "Down By The River"...hope you enjoy, later.
