There is a very good discussion over at TPMCafe on a great M.J. Rosenberg thread about how the Democrats are missing a golden opportunity to show leadership and stand up to El Presidente and the Junta's fascist like governing tendencies. The Democrats were put in power by the voters in the '06 midterms to do just that. They have rolled over for Bush on the FISA bill. They refuse to take action to shut down Gitmo, even when given "bi-partisan" cover by people like Colin Powell. Speaker Pelosi has taken the impeachment option off the table when even conservative minds like Bruce Fein are calling for impeachment of the President and Vice President. But it seems the Democrats are more worried about being labeled "weak on terrorism" and "soft on defense" by the far right of the political spectrum and the 30% of the electorate that inhabit the land of Wingnuttery. Why are the Democrats concerned with the opinions of a vast minority of the people who will never support them under any circumstances when a plurality of the electorate is calling for change?
The U.S. people voted the Democrats into power in '06 because they wanted change and will just as easily vote them back out of power in '08 if there are no results. The people have spoken why are Messrs Dean, Reid and Missus Pelosi not listening?
